The city of Porto Vecchio

first Corsican seaside resort, is situated in the East of the Beauty Island between the cities of Solenzara (to the North) and Bonifacio (to the South).

The Sea

Between limestone and granite, the cliffs form a wide natural wall. In front of these cliffs, there are the archipelagoes of the Lavezzi and Cerbicales islands, that are famous for their extraordinary sea beds.

Bonifacio owns a lot of beaches with their crystal-clear water, as Rondinara, Balistra, the gulfes of Santa Manza, of the Canetto and the small Sperone. Real treasures of Corsica, these white sand beaches with their turquoise and shallow water, will welcome you to get a suntan, have a swim, or practice water sport in the lovely Corsican sunshine.

There are numerous shops and supermarkets in the city of Porto Vecchio. Its marina is very busy in high season : bars, ice-cream makes, and restaurants.

The mountain

On the mountain side, you will also have a lot to experience. In the West of Porto Vecchio, there is the mountain massif of the Aiguilles de Bavella. This place is very well known for canyoning and climbing. The massif of Bavella is a link between the Eastern and Western parts of the beauty island. Its summit is about 1900 meters high.

The hikers who love the GR 20, will follow a way that lies at the bottom of the Aiguilles, and discover therefore wonderful rivers, cascades, and natural swimming pools. If you want to try canyoning, you will be happy to enjoy all this in complete security thanks to many qualified instructors of the area. A must-see is the Canyon of the Purcaraccia.

If you drive 30 minutes to the West, you will be able to discover the state-owned forest of l’Ospédale, which is 900 meters high. You will see its lake, Via ferrata and many hiking walks. Quad driving is also possible. Another must-see is the cascade of Piscia di Gallo.
